French centre hosts short plays about love

HA NOI — Ha Noi International Theatre will perform a series of short plays about love this weekend at L'Espace to raise money for charity.

The series of four short plays are a mix of comedy and drama, real and absurd, shocking and uplifting.

The short plays are directed by Daniel Levitt and Nadia Engelbrecht who are studying theatre in the US. They used to live in Ha Noi and acted in numerous HITS shows.

HITS is a non-profit group, bringing together theatre enthusiasts to explore creative expression and drama as both a leisure and community development activity.

As an organisation, they are committed to performances that are enjoyable and fun for all cast, crew and audience, yet also striving for professional quality.

Community theatre both draws from and gives back to the local community. HITS seeks to diversify the cultural geography of Ha Noi and to address some of the funding issues experienced by small independent charities and arts groups through the medium of theatre.

It's membership consists mainly of expatriates living and working in the city. Many of them are working in the voluntary sector and they have donated their time to HITS.

HITS has been active since 2001 and now regularly commands audiences of nearly 1,000 people over the course of a show.

All proceeds will go to HealthRight International's Promoting Community Based Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children project. Launched in 2008, it provides ongoing care and support to more than 500 HIV-affected children and their families in Ha Noi.

The short plays will be performed by 10 actors including Daniel Levitt. The shows will kick off at 8pm this Friday and Saturday. It is sponsored by JOMA bakery cafe.

Tickets are VND120,000 at 21 Dien Bien Phu, 54 To Ngoc Van, 16 Tong Duy Tan, 18 Hang Quat, and 24 Xuan Dieu. — VNS
