HA NOI — Dang Anh Tuan's latest exhibition, entitled Journey of Dreams will open this Sunday at Viet Art Centre in Ha Noi.
Each canvas is a journey: a journey of love, happiness and passion. A journey to the deepest desire of human beings, and it is also the journey back to our origins and the childhood of humankind. Every work in this exhibition is the journey of life, Tuan says.
"Tuan is a great colourist," says Annette Van den Bosch, an art historian from Sydney. "His paintings always show a strong emotional and symbolic use of colour."
The exhibition will run until next Saturday.
New trio guitar concert in Ha Noi
HA NOI — French band Le Nouveau Trio Gitan will perform next Wednesday at Ha Noi Opera House.
Christian Escoude formed the band in 2004 and was later joined by Jean-Baptiste Laya and Hugo Lippi.
Escoude is a jazz guitarist. He was strongly influenced by Django Reinhardt, one of first European jazz musicians, but has managed to retain his own voice.
Gypsy jazz guitarist Laya has performed contemporary French songs and Kabyle, but is renowned for his jazz bop and gypsy style.
Tickets are available at L'Espace and the Ha Noi Opera House.
Rare ivory compass found in Ha Tinh
HA TINH — An ivory feng shui compass dating back to the end of the 19th-early 20th century has been discovered in the central province of Ha Tinh, according to the provincial Culture, Sports and Tourism Department.
The handmade compass measures 10cm in diametre and 1.5cm thick. It has been handed down through generations of the family of a local man named Phan Le Sy, who lives in the province's Huong Khe District.
The main face of the compass is covered in circles surrounded by varying numbers of Han (Chinese script) characters.
Local scientists said the compass was used for geomancy, a type of divination.
Most compasses of that era were made from wood, which makes this find particularly special, they added.
Final round of HTV singing
HCM CITY — The final round of the HCM City Television (HTV) annual singing contest will kick off today.
Twelve finalists of the Ngoi Sao Tieng Hat Truyen Hinh 2010 (Singing Star on TV) will perform songs on selected topics and genres of music, including patriotic songs and songs that praise Ha Noi and HCM City.
The jury will select the three best candidates for the final show and awards ceremony, which will be held at the Hoa Binh Theatre on December 1.
For the last show, three finalists will perform three songs, including a duet with a pop star, a song with backup singers and a song with backup dancers.
Audiences across the country will vote for the winner.
The HCM City Television will hold a special concert at the Hoa Binh Theatre on December 2 to celebrate the 20th birthday of the contest.
This year's contest attracted more than 1,300 people aged 16 to 25 across the country for the preliminary selection rounds held in Ha Noi, Da Nang, Dac Lac Province, Can Tho City and HCM City last month. — VNS
