HA NOI — Thanh Lam will give shows in Ha Noi and three other cities beginning next Wednesday as part of the Toyota Concert 2010.

Under the conduction of maestro Tetsuji Honna, the concert is expected to produce euphoric melodies followed by a folly of sweet songs by Thanh Lam.

Thanh Lam will sing two well-known songs: Nguoi Ha Noi (Hanoians) and Hoa Sua (Milk Flower). This will be the first time she performs the song Hanoians in public.

Nguoi Ha Noi was composed by Nguyen Dinh Thi in 1947 when the resistance war against the French colonialists had just broken out.

The song praises the capital and its rich history.

"Singing a song like Hanoians is a challenge for any pop music singer because it is a heroic song. I'm a little worried about singing the song, not least because I will be accompanied by a symphony orchestra," Lam said.

Hoa Sua , by contrast, was composed by Hong Dang in 1973. Late singer Le Dung made the song popular when it featured in the film Ha Noi Mua Chim Lam To (Ha Noi Bird Nesting Season) in 1978.

Recently, Thanh Lam has shifted her focus to contemporary songs backed by semi-classical music. "I have listened to other veteran singers singing Nguoi Ha Noi before. I want to keep the powerful spirit of the song but sing it with the emotion of a new generation," said Lam.

In addition to local favourites, Suppe's overture Poet and Peasant, Bizet's Les Toreadors, and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Nutcracker, will also be performed at the concert.

The concerts will take place at 8pm at the Ha Noi Opera House on July 7 and 8, Hai Phong Culture Theatre on July 11, Trung Vuong Theatre in Da Nang on July 23, and HCM City's Municipal Theatre on July 25.

Tickets have gone on sale at the performance venues due to host the concerts.

Toyota Concert Tour Viet Nam 2010 will be held as part of the Toyota Viet Nam Foundation's celebration of the 1000th year anniversary of Thang Long - Ha Noi.
