Plan to preserve heritage artform

HA NOI — Ca tru (ceremonial singing) in the northern province of Hai Duong has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, which should be preserved urgently, by UNESCO.

The recognition honoured those who have devoted their lives to uphold the traditional art.

A plan has been developed to preserve and develop the singing from now until 2020 that includes training young singers, researching the music and popularising it in the community, according to Dang Viet Cuong, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Museum receives more war relics

HA NOI — As many as 200 items of war memorabilia have been donated to the Museum of Military History as the result of a drive to collect more remnant.

The objects will help today's youth understand more about the country's revolution. Many of them are of great historical value such as the diary and letters of martyr Tran Danh Hai from the northern province of Thai Binh, love letters and wedding invitations of Colonel Vu Quang Bich and a compass that belonged to Lieutenant-General Nguyen Nhu Hoat which helped him complete his task.

The museum has received around 11,000 objects since the drive was started one year ago.

The objects are on display at the museum on Dien Bien Phu Street, Ha Noi.

Schools hold traffic safety contest

HA NOI — A traffic safety contest among primary schools in six provinces will be held later this month and next month.

There will be a contest on students' understanding of the traffic laws, a short drama on traffic safety, and a painting competition on the same theme. There will also be a contest to choose the best teacher of traffic safety.

Jointly held by the Toyota Viet Nam Fund, the Ministry of Education and Training and the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the festival will start in Phu Tho and Quang Ngai next Wednesday and Friday, respectively, and in Dong Nai, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong on December 3, 10, 13 and 15.

Similar contests have already been held in Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong.

Toyota Viet Nam official Tran Thu Hien said the fund would present teaching aids for use in all primary schools throughout the country.

The aids would feature two cartoon characters – a turtle and a rabbit – to introduce traffic situations in the Hong (Red) and Mekong delta regions and mountainous areas. — VNS
