After requesting donors for blood type O, which has been in short supply, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion has received more than 2,000 units of blood, 70 per cent of which is type O.
The appeal has been heard by donors from all walks of life, many of whom have donated blood several times.
It is estimated that the institute will need 60,000 units of blood, half of which is type O, to meet the demand for treatment until a month after the Lunar New Year. — VNA/VNS Photo Vo Dung
