Theatre Day marked by dramas, shows

HCM CITY — Dozens of dramas and activities will be held in Ha Noi and HCM City to celebrate the Viet Nam Theatre Day, which falls on the 12th of the eighth lunar month (September 19).

The Viet Nam Theatre Artists' Association will open the day with a photo exhibition about the country's history at the association office in District 3 in HCM City.

The Viet Nam History of Theatre through Golden Ages exhibits will display photos about artists and stage decorations that have been collected by artists like Kim B, Hong Nga and Huynh Cong Minh.

In the evening, the city's theatre artists will perform worship proceedings to show the current generation's respect and attitude to ancestors of theatre.

A show featuring veteran theatre artists, including Bach Tuyet, Vu Linh and Le Thuy, will be the highlight of the commemoration.

The artists will perform extracts from famous cai luong (reformed opera) plays like To Anh Nguyet and Chiec Ao Thien Nga (Swan Coat), and from the comedy Ngheu So Oc Hen (The Stories of Snails).

Singers Dam Vinh Hung, Duc Tuan, Huong Lan and Nam Dong Ke (Five Stripes) band will also perform at the show to congratulate theatre artists.

The show will take place at Hung Dao Theatre, 133 Co Bac Street, District 1. Tickets from VND50,000-200,000 are available at the theatre.

In Ha Noi, a ritual to honour ancestors of theatre will be held in front of the Opera House on Saturday.

More than 10 performances like the circus, puppetry, tuong (classical theatre) and cheo (traditional opera) will end the festival in Ha Noi.

The national Theatre Day is the traditional date when theatre artists across the country commemorate their ancestors. — VNS
