THUA THIEN-HUE — Vietnamese photographers have commemorated Dang Huy Tru, the founder of Vietnamese photography, at the Dang family temple in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
On the occasion, the provincial Association of Photographic Artists organised a photo exhibition at the family temple, displaying 50 photos of 14 artists about the life and landscapes of Hue. The exhibition was moved to 26 Le Loi Street, Hue city, and will be open until the end of this month.
Tru established the Cam Hieu Duong photographic shop, the first of its kind in Viet Nam, on March 14, 1869 in Ha Noi.
The HCM City Journalists Association and the Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists held a commemoration ceremony for the 57th Viet Nam Photographic Day (March 15, 1953), drawing over 200 photographers from HCM City and southern provinces.
The association presented insignias, certificates of merit and awards to artists who have contributed to Vietnamese photography.
Memory man arrives in Viet Nam
HA NOI — Eran Katz, the Israeli holder of a Guinness World Record for memory tasks, visited Viet Nam on Tuesday ahead of the release of the Vietnamese translations of his two best-selling books.
The books, Secret of a Super Memory and Jerome Becomes a Genius – The Jewish Way to Brain Power, which have been translated into more than ten languages, will be published in Viet Nam by Alpha Books JSC.
During his three-day visit Katz will hold talks on memory training in Hai Phong, Ha Noi and HCM City.
Katz holds a Guinness World Record for memorising a 500-digit number after hearing it just once and currently sits on the board of the International Brain Education Association.
Italian writer talks to local readers
HA NOI — Alessandro Baricco will give talks and answer readers questions at the HCM City Book Fair in Le Van Tam Park tomorrow and the Creative Cafe (36 Dien Bien Phu Street) in Ha Noi next Tuesday.
Baricco is a popular Italian writer, director and performer, best known for his novels Ocean Sea and Silk.
Baricco is also the co-founder of a creative writing school in Turin, named Scuola Holden. The Scuola Holden hosts a variety of courses on narrative techniques including screen writing, journalism, novels and short stories.
Three cities to toast solidarity
THUA THIEN-HUE — Authorities and people from Ha Noi, Hue and HCM City will organise an event in Hue city to celebrate 50 years of relations between the three cities.
Fifty years ago, the three cities swore sisterhood to extend solidarity and support for each other in their common struggle against the American invasion.
As part of the celebrations that will span over three days until tomorrow, a photo exhibition and book fair will be held.
Artists prepare for Japan visit
HA NOI — A group of outstanding Vietnamese artists will travel to Japan next Sunday to join the exchange programme Cultural Leaders.
The programme is part of a series of activities of the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Viet Nam that promotes Japanese literature, cinema, art, music and architecture. — VNS
