HA NOI — Two artists, regarded as representatives of Viet Nam's young musical generation, singer Tung Duong and songwriter-singer Le Cat Trong Ly, will pair up in a music show in the capital city this weekend.

Duong recently scooped two major Devotion Music awards, "Singer of the Year" and "Album of the Year", while Ly was granted the title "Musician of the Year". The annual awards were judged by 100 journalists specialising on culture and music.

Duong shot to fame in 2004, when he won the singing talent contest Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star – Rendezvous) and then quickly became one of the top singers in Viet Nam. Among his three released albums, two were granted the Devotion award. He also was given the title "Singer of the Year" twice, in 2004 and 2010.

The 24-year-old Ly lit up the Vietnamese Song programme in 2008 with her self-composed Chenh Venh (Unstable). Her 2010 debut album entitled Le Cat Trong Ly helped her to be named as the "Musician of the Year".

During their weekend performance, which is the first edition of the monthly music show entitled Music Space, Duong and Ly will perform the songs that created their names, along with tracks from their latest albums, including Chenh Venh, Con Co (The Stork) and Li Ti (Tiny).

In addition the show will feature the singers interpreting each other's work, revealed the show's director Viet Tu.

While Duong delivers high-octane emotional performances, Ly expresses her charm and gentleness. "We decided to pair up these two artists, with such contrasting musical styles because we believe that the fusion will bring unexpected results," the show's music director Tran Thanh Phuong said.

The event will take place in the elegant French-period Nguy Nhu Kon Tum Theatre in the University of Natural Science, 19 Le Thanh Tong Street, Ha Noi.

Tickets priced at VND1 million and 2 million (US$50 & 100) are available at the www.khonggianamnhac.com (Vietnamese language only), or through a ticket hotline on 0904669007. — VNS
