Australia invites travel stories from young Vietnamese

HA NOI — Young Vietnamese living in Australia have been invited to share their impressions of the country in a video and photo story competition entitled Australia Through Your Eyes.

Organised by the Australian Embassy in Ha Noi in co-injunction with the e-newspaper VnExpress, the one-month competition allows Vietnamese who are studying, working or travelling in Australia the opportunity to tell their stories using videos and photos posted on the VnExpress website, where readers would have an opportunity to comment on and vote for favourites. Speaking at the contest launch ceremony in Ha Noi yesterday, Australian Ambassador to Viet Nam Allaster Cox said, "The interesting element of this competition is that participants can be as creative as they like through the way they tell their stories. They can also exchange perspectives with VnExpress readers through comments and by ‘liking' videos."

All the entries must be submitted by May 13, have been produced in 2011 and never before presented in another printed or online publication. Winners will be announced on May 16 and will win a return trip to Australia and a latest version of the Apple iPad.

Cox will judge the competition along with VnExpress editor-in-chief Thang Duc Thang and TV personality Diem Quynh, who is also now in Australia under an Endeavour Scholarship.

About 26,000 Vietnamese were studying in Australia in 2010, more than in any other country, Cox said.
