HÀ NỘI — Track and field athletes who achieved outstanding results at the 32nd SEA Games were given big bonuses at a ceremony in Hà Nội on May 17.
The team won 12 gold, 20 silver and eight bronze medals and set one national record, one of three best teams in the Việt Nam sport delegation.
Runners Nguyễn Thị Oanh with four golds and Nguyễn Thị Huyền with three golds and one silver were two best members of not only Việt Nam but also of the whole Games' athletic teams.
The only national record went to Phan Thanh Bình who threw 17.39m in the shot put.
The athletes were awarded a total of VNĐ950 million (US$40,300) bonuses and gifts from enterprises such as Thaco Auto, Vietcontent, Việt Nam Young Talent Support Fund and Lining Company.
Nguyễn Thị Oanh was the best athlete of the track-and field team with four gold medals.
Thaco Auto also presented Oanh individually a Peugeot 2008 car.
“Thaco always join hands in implementing social responsibility in many fields, including sports activities," said Nguyễn Một, Thaco Auto Director of Communications.
"We admire all athletes who brought home victories. And we picked Oanh to present the car to as we found that her great efforts to overcome challenges is the same as our company's tradition."
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Việt Nam Sports Administration Trần Đức Phấn said that the track-and-field had a successful SEA Games, they should work to turn their silver medals into gold at the next event making Việt Nam a powerful force in the region.

In the next Games in Thailand in 2025, Vietnamese athletes, especially the track-and-field competitors, should be well prepared so to achieve the best possible results. VNS
