HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese fighters won 14 gold medals at the Southeast Asian Kurash Championship 2024 which finished on July 21 in Selangor, Malaysia.
Among the winners were Nguyễn Hoàng Thành (55kg), Lê Công Hoàng Hải (60kg) and Bùi Minh Quân (100kg) in the men's categories. The female champions were Nguyễn Thanh Phú Quí in the (48kg), Đỗ Thị Hà (52kg), Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc (57kg), Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Nhung (63kg), Lê Huỳnh Tường Vi (70kg) and Võ Thị Phương Quỳnh (78kg).
In addition, Nguyễn Xuân Phi took bronze in the men's 90kg.
“We have earned encouraging results from the championships. Our athletes were in good form and show their remarkable abilities," said Việt Nam team leader Nguyễn Hữu An.
This was the first regional championship and featured competitions for seniors, cadets, juniors and children. Việt Nam, with 16 strong martial artists, were one of eight teams taking part.
During the four-day championship's framework, team leaders also took part in a seminar for referees and the Southeast Asian Kurash Federations Congress in which they discussed to further develop the sport and to organise a wide range of kurash athletes by increasing the number of competitions. VNS
