HA NOI ⸺ The capital buffaloes galloped to victory as they beat the Wings of HCM City in the Viet Nam Basketball Association (VBA) League 2018 on July 17 at their home-turf Ho Xuan Huong Gymnasium, District 3.
Hochiminh City Wings entered the match strong, with Quinton Doggett claiming 13 points, endangering the Hanoi Buffaloes’ defensive barrier. Yet the capital team stood their ground and ended the first round at 20-20.
The second round started with a three-pointer by Vincent Nguyen and Stefan Nguyen, helping the buffaloes raise the score to 43-38.
In the third round, while the Hochiminh City Wings were still in shock at the attack of the opposing team, the Hanoi Buffaloes continued to score. Stefan Nguyen contributed 11 points, helping his team to lead 69-52 after the first 30 minutes.
Putting all efforts into victory with just one minute left in fourth round, the Ho Chi Minh City team tried to shorten the gap to 73-79. However, they failed to penetrate the strong defensive line of the Hanoi Buffaloes, and were beaten at 75-83.
Quinton Doggett poured in 34 points and 17 rebounds and Henry Nguyen gave 18 points to Hochiminh City Wings.
Meanwhile, Mike Bell contributed 20 points, 16 rebounds and 2 blocks; Stefan Nguyen gave 24 points; Le Ngoc Tu 16 points and Vincent Nguyen 11 points to the Hanoi Buffaloes.
In the next matches, the Hanoi Buffaloes will visit the CIS Gymnasium to face the Saigon Heat on July 22, while the Hochiminh City Wings will meet the Thang Long Warriors in the capital on July 19. ⸺ VNS
