HA NOI — Viet Nam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem continued his progress by beating Grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov from Uzbekistan in the fourth round of the ongoing Spring Chess Classic on Tuesday in Saint Louis, Missouri in the US.
Liem (Elo rating 2,715), defeated Kasimdzhanov (FIDE World Champion in 2004-05) after the player from Uzbekistan made some mistakes in the final minute.
The victory brought Liem back into the first group with 2.5 points. He will play Armenian-born American Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian (Elo 2,643), who got 1.5 points in the fourth round. — VNS
