HA NOI — Desriac Loic won the first stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Tournament yesterday.
Loic, of Bike Life Dong Nai crew, overcame many strong rivals to win the 6km time trial event, with a time of 7min, 18.19sec in Lang Son Province.
Sarda Javier of Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang came second (7:29.68) and Mai Nguyen Hung of VUS HCM City was in third place (7:33.50).
French former national U23 cyclist Loic will temporally take the yellow jersey after the first stage.
The second stage will be 40km around Lang Son City.
The tournament, which is one of the biggest in Viet Nam, has lured 78 athletes from 13 teams. Cyclists will tour 30 stages from March 29 to April 30. — VNS
