HA NOI — Mekong United will be Viet Nam’s representative at the Thailand Basketball Super League this season.

Under coach Kevin Yurkus, Mekong United will present familiar faces to supporters, such as Tam Dinh, Sang Dinh and Nguyen Le Quoc Cuong. They will be joined by Thai players Kevin Lane Dasom, Anasawee Klaewnarong and Richard Latham, along with two foreigners Matt Van Pelt and Mike Earl.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Bangkok, Yurkus said he was happy to have a chance to compete in Thailand again. The American trainer said basketball was popular in Viet Nam and is developing strongly. Yurkus was proud of his Vietnamese players who would fight with him at the TBSL.

Yurkus in 2017 guided Cantho Catfish to the Viet Nam Basketball Association League’s second position after losing to Thang Long Warriors in a thrilling final.

TBSL will see six clubs from Thailand and three from the ASEAN region. Two other foreign teams are Kabayan of the Philippines and Adroit of Singapore.

TBSL will kick off on January 27, and the final will be held in March.

Mekong United is the second club from Viet Nam following Hanoi Buffaloes who competed in the Thai tournament last year.
