Ha Noi — National team captain Que Ngoc Hai has been banned for one match by his club Viettel for committing a dangerous foul against Ha Noi FC in their V.League match on Wednesday.

The defender put a late tackle in on Tran Van Kien towards the end of the match, leaping with both feet and connecting with the Ha Noi player’s shins. Hai received a yellow card but coach Chu Dinh Nghiem of Ha Noi said afterwards it should have been red.

Viettel yesterday said Hai’s actions were dangerous and counter to the style of football the club want to play. He will be left ay home when the team travel to play Becamex Binh Duong on April 8.

Hai has sent apologies to Kien.

The defender received a red card in the first league match of the season last and was sidelined in the second round and just returned to action on Wednesday.

Hai was banned for six months and asked to pay VND800 million (US$34,400) for surgery for SHB Da Nang’s midfielder Tran Anh Khoa after he broke Khoa’s leg in a dangerous tackle in 2015. Khoa had to retire and begin working as a coach. — VNS
