HA NOI — Quang Ninh Coal hope to beat Singapore’s Home United in the third Group H match at the AFC Cup 2017 at the My Dinh National Stadium today.

Quang Ninh Coal sit at the bottom with one point in the group. If the team wants to advance, they must win their two remaining matches. Home United rank second with three points and Yadanarbon FC of Myanmar are on top with four points.

Earlier, Quang Ninh failed to register their first win at the Cup after losing 2-3 to Home United in Singapore.

“We have only one point after two matches, however, we still have a chance to enter the event’s next round,” said coach Phan Thanh Hung.

“We have prepared carefully for the game. We have enough skillful players to earn three points. The return of Thanh Hien is glad news,” Hung added.

Goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh is very confident going into the match.

“We lost three goals in the first leg match against Home United. In the second leg match, we will try to defend our goal and score against our rival,” said Linh.

Quang Ninh will be missing Thanh Hao and Nguyen Sa because of injury. However, Linh and captain Vu Minh Tuan are very strong after a long  journey from Tajikistan to Viet Nam. Linh and Tuan joined the national team to compete in the qualifying round of the Asian Cup 2019.

Meanwhile, coach Aidil Sharin Sahak and his players are also very confident to play the Vietnamese team.

“There are not any weak teams in the AFC Cup. Each team have private strong points. So do Yadanarbon and Quang Ninh Coal. We respect all rivals. For Quang Ninh, I think that they own as many quality players. Among them, I like Tambwe Patiyo, Vu Minh Tuan and Mac Hong Quan,” said Sahak.

“We are ready for the coming match and we will win,” Sahak added.

The match will begin at 6pm. Entrance is free.

Ha Noi FC yesterday destroyed Singapore’s Tampines Rovers with a 4-0 win, marking the first victory in Group G at the AFC Cup 2017.

Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem of Ha Noi FC changed his formation from 4-1-4-1 to 4-2-3-1, which gave more power to the team. Their first goal was scored in the 16th minute after the strong defence was broken. At the end of the first half, Ha Noi FC were consistently setting up chances, but neither striker Ngoc Duc and Van Quyet was able to capitalise.

Guests Tampines Rovers had their only good chance in the 64th minute, when Amri faced down Van Cong but failed to score.

In the 89th minute, a cross from the left allowed Hung Dung to get one up over a clumsy move by the defender, scoring the third goal for the hosts.

The guests lost their cool towards the end of the match and made silly mistakes within the penalty box. Gonzalo used the foul to put the penalty kick in the back of the net and score the fourth for the hosts. — VNS
