Toàn wins gold at World Martial Arts Masterships

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese martial artist Nguyễn Ngọc Toàn took home a gold medal at the ongoing 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships in South Korea.

Toàn from Thanh Hóa triumphed in the pencak silat event of the men’s 65kg beating his rival from Singapore in the final.

Last year, Toàn won gold medals in the Asian championship, and at the National Sports Festival. He also bagged a silver medal in the Asian Games.

Earlier, Việt Nam won silver medal in the taekwondo freestyle poomsae mixed pair and gold medal in the women’s team freestyle poomsae.

The World Martial Arts Masterships is an international event held from August 30 to September 6 in Chungju City.

About 3,500 martial artists and officials from 106 countries and territories are taking part in the competition. There are 271 sets of medals for 20 sports such as wrestling, judo, taekwondo, aikido, muay thai and pencak silat up for grabs.

Local athletes are competing in several different categories, including taekwondo, judo, and traditional Vietnamese martial arts. — VNS
