HA NOI — Nguyen Minh Viet triumphed in the eighth stage of the Nam Ky Khoi Nghia cycling tour in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak’s Buon Ma Thuot City on Tuesday.
Viet of Vietnam USA Society English Centres (VUS HCM City) won the 179km stage from Pleiku City in Gia Lai Province to Buon Ma Thuot in a time of 4:25.33.
Nguyen Minh Luan and Ha Kieu Tan Dai of Minh Giang-HCM City finished second and third.
The win saw Viet take the yellow jersey from his teammate Mai Nguyen Hung.
Le Nguyet Minh of Minh Giang collected 115 points and holds both the green sprinter’s jersey and the polka dot king of the mountains jersey, while the white best young rider jersey was retained by Kim Chantou of Cambodia.
In the team rankings, Loc Troi An Giang Group are on top with a total time of 82:22.31, followed by Domesco Dong Thap and VUS HCM City.
Racers tackled the ninth stage today from Buon Ma Thuot to the coastal city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province, a distance of 189km. — VNS
