HÀ NỘI — The 15th Swing for the Kids golf tournament will tee off on April 16 at the BRG Kings Island Golf Resort in Đồng Mô, Sơn Tây Town, Hà Nội.

The annual tournament will feature about 280 competitors taking part in five groups for men and women based on their handicaps, and a group who do not yet have a handicap.

Apart from the main prizes for the overall champion and group winners, organisers will also present awards to those who make the longest drive, are nearest the pin, or shoot a hole-in-one.

The tournament, returning after a one-year absence because of the pandemic, is held by the Vietnam Investment Review (VIR) in collaboration with BRG Group and SeaBank.

The annual charity competition aims to raise funds to support poor students who have excelled academically.

According to the organisers, over the past fourteen years, the event has raised over US$800,000 and handed out almost 18,000 scholarships to outstanding young students in need of financial support.

It has also facilitated upgrades to learning facilities in 40 cities and provinces across Việt Nam.

At the launch ceremony on April 7 in Hà Nội, 10 scholarships worth between $260 and $440 were given to students from three universities and academies, who had outstanding results in the past school year.

“Many community activities had to be postponed or cancelled last year, but the pandemic cannot disrupt the connection of benevolent hearts across the country and those who are studying in difficult circumstances,” said Le Trong Minh, VIR’s editor-in-chief and head of the event’s organising committee, at the launch. — VNS
