VN, Thailand, Indonesia win canoe golds

HÀ NỘI — Thailand and Indonesia had a tough race on the second day of canoeing at the Games in Hải Phòng City as duo Aphinya Sroichit and Orasa Thiangkathok of Thailand and Indonesian Dayumin and Nur Meni both crossed the finish line of the women’s 500m canoe double with the same time, on May 20.

However, the gold medal was awarded to Thai canoeists, who clocked 2 mins 7.004sec, after the morning competition.

Indonesia received the silver medal, although they registered the same time.

Vietnamese Trương Thị Phương and Nguyễn Thị Tuyết came third for bronze with a time of 2min 8.70sec.

Phương and Tuyết helped Việt Nam win gold in the women’s 1,000m canoe four on May 19.

Anwar Tarra, Dedi Saputra, Sofiyanto Sofiyanto and Yuda Firmansyah from Indonesia made their best time in the men’s 500m canoe four of 1min 40.78sec for gold, shaving only one second off the Thai runners-up Mongkhonchai Sisong, Wittaya Hongkaeo, Piyawat Chaithong and Pitbiboon Mahawattanangkul (1min 41.745sec) who took silver.

Myo Hlaing Win, Min Naing, Thant Zin Oo and Win Htike helped clinch bronze for Myanmar with a 1min 42.215sec finish.

Vietnamese Nguyễn Thị Hương, who won a gold in the women’s 1,000m canoe four on the first competition day, earned her own second gold by finishing first in the women’s 500m canoe singles in 2min 10.067sec.

Crossing the finish line five seconds later was Indonesian Riska Andriyani for silver with a time of 2min 15.019sec, while Orasa Thiangkathok of Thailand took bronze with 2min 19.454sec.
