HCMCITY— Famous saxophonist Trần Mạnh Tuấn has released his latest jazz album after several months of working in a prestigious studio in HCM City.

The work Thằng Cuội (The Man in the Moon) features seven tracks of world jazz based on folk music.

Tuấn did the composing, mixing and recording.

He used traditional instruments like flutes, and instruments made by Mông people living in northern provinces.

Featured works include Sen (Lotus), Trốn Tìm (Hide-and-Seek), Ngày Mùa (Harvest Time) and Thằng Cuội.

In the work Thằng Cuội, Tuấn performed with his 12-year-old daughter An Trần, a talented saxophonist, with the support of the orchestra.

“I find myself by playing my own music. I hope my music will help make jazz more popular among Vietnamese,” said the 45-year-old Tuấn.

Tuấn’s album also features the performances of Australian pianist Allan Zavod and the Japanese-based jazz band Kizan All Stars. — VNS
