HA NOI — Tam Cam: Chuyen Chua Ke (Tam Cam: The Untold Story) and Thanh Pho Cua Nhung Tam Guong: Mot Tieu Su Hu Cau (The City of Mirrors: A Fictional Biography) have been enlisted in A Window on Asian Cinema, one in ten main sections of the 21st Busan International Film Festival to be held next month.
A Window on Asia Cinema is dedicated to new cinematic works by Asian film producers which will be shown along with other excellent film of the year to represent new cinematic trends of the continent.
While Tam Cam: The Untold Story is a fantasy film based on a popular Vietnamese fairy tale and invested much money on by its director, Ngo Thanh Van, The City of Mirrors: A Fictional Biography is a special experimental film produced at low cost by director Truong Minh Quy. Quy made the film himself and utilised the people and setting that are familiar to him to tell an unreal story, in which his parents are the main characters.
According to Kim Ji-seok, a founder of Busan International Film Festival, Tam Cam: The Untold Story is considered as one of the first significant advance in introducing Viet Nam’s films into the world’s market.
He added that the quality of the film is sufficient enough to meet the demand for recreation of both domestic and international audience.
Many Vietnamese outstanding films have previously been screened in A Window on Asian Cinema section like Bi, Dung So (Bi, Don’t Be Afraid) by Phan Dang Di, Dap Canh Giua Khong Trung (Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere) by Nguyen Hoang Diep, and Quyen (Farewell, Berlin Wall) by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh
In addition the project entitled Con Culi Khong Bao Gio Khoc (Culi Never Cries) by young director Pham Ngoc Lan is among 27 film projects to be presented in Asian Project Market 2016, an activity within the framework of the film festival.
Held yearly in Busan, South Korea since 1996, Busan International Film Festival is one of the most important cinematic events in Asia. The festival of this year will take place on October 6-15, screening films from 69 countries. — VNS
