HA NOI — M6 group will hold a concert tonight at the Viet Nam Youth Theatre to celebrate its 10th birthday.
The group is the only one of its kind in Ha Noi. Professional and amateur musicians Ngo Tu Lap, Giang Son, Nguyen Le Tam and Nguyen Thang, as well as Nguyen Vinh Tien, Tran Duc Minh and Nguyen Tuan, are members of the group.
The concert will introduce new songs by these musicians, which are different to those of other artists.
Two songs of each musician will be performed by young singers, such as Dinh Manh Ninh, Thuy Chi, and Dong Hung, at the concert.
The group is led by Lap, who works at the Viet Nam National University’s International Francophone Institute. His song titled Ha Noi Hiphop was performed at Bai Hat Viet (Vietnamese Song) – a popular television show in 2007.
Lap is not the only well-known amateur musician in M6, architect Tien is also popular. Tien has won top prizes at Bai Hat Viet.
Last but not the least amateur is Tam, an artist working at the Cong An Nhan Dan (Police) newspaper. He is known for his band which he set up at the end of 1990s. His song titled Phep La Hang Ngay (Daily Magic) is among the most popular songs for children.
The last four group members are Son, Thang, Minh and Tuan, who are graduates from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music.
Son is an established musician. She is currently teaching at the Ha Noi Cinema and Theatre College, prior to which she was part of a girl band. She has won prizes at Bai Hat Viet and her latest album Bong Toi Jazz (The Shadow of Jazz) was awarded the Devotion Music Award this year.
Minh was awarded by the Viet Nam Musicians’ Association in 2015 for a music piece titled Canh Rung Mua Thu (Fall Forest). He also won a prize at Bai Hat Viet.
Thang is a traditional musician. His score for the first Vietnamese-3D animated cartoon Giac Mo Cua Ech Xanh (Dream of Green Frog) earned him best music award at the 15th Viet Nam National Film Festival.
M6’s two-hour concert will be accompanied by a performance by the Am Band. The group will also launch its third album titled Dem Nhiet Doi (Tropical Night) at the concert.
The concert will begin at 7.30pm tonight on 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street. — VNS
