HA NOI — A traditional market of the Mong ethnic group from the northern province of Dien Bien will be held at the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups between Saturday and New Year’s Day.
Forging will be performed at the market, with the metal, handmade products also up for sale.
The Lao ethnic group from Dien Bien Province will perform weaving embroidery cloth at the site, an intangible heritage of the group.
At the market, people will experience cultural features of the ethnic groups of Mong, Lao, Khang, Thai, Tay, Dao and Kho Mu.
On December 30, an event titled Year-End Gathering Meal will showcase cuisine of ethnic groups residing in the northern mountainous area of Viet Nam. Also, the Khang ethnic group in Son La Province will replicate their Wine Festival to wish for favourable weather and good health.
Folk art will also be performed at the site together with folk games.
Various activities featuring the cultures and customs of 13 ethnic groups residing at the village will take place at the site as well.
The village is located in Dong Mo, Son Tay District, some 45km west of Ha Noi’s centre.
Those interested can take bus No 107 from Bus Station in Kim Ma Street in Ha Noi to the village. The bus runs from 5am to 8.50pm, at VND9,000 (US$0.4) per ticket. There is a bus departing from the station every 15-20 minutes. — VNS
