HCM CITY – An exhibition of watercolour paintings about Sai Gon street culture by four city-based artists will open at La Saigonais in District 1 on September 16.

“Saigon Just around the Corner” will include 100 works by Bridget March from the UK, Jean Marc Potlet from France, and Khoa Han and Thuy Duong from Viet Nam.

Each artist captures their own interpretation of life on street corners across the city, with focus on people, markets, food, sounds and smells.

Watercolourist March, who has lived and worked in HCM City, Sapa and Hoi An since 2012, worked as a freelance product designer and art lecturer in the UK before moving to Viet Nam.

The 62-year-old has drawn hundreds of paintings and drawings of Scotland and northern England for more than 20 years.

She has had two solo exhibitions in Hoi An and HCM City, and several group exhibitions in Viet Nam, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

She has published two books, “A Week in Hoi An” and “A Summer in Sapa”, featuring her paintings and drawings about culture, life and landscapes.

The exhibition also includes works by Khoa Han, a native of Binh Dinh Province, who captures stunning images of Sai Gon’s landscape.

Khoa’s works were featured at the first Canada International Watercolour Biennual at the Ferry Building Gallery in Vancouver, Canada in July.

Visitors can view Khoa and three other artists’ paintings at 77-79 Ly Tu Trong Street in District 1 until October 16. – VNS
