HCM CITY — Thousands of people, young and old, Vietnamese and foreigners, thronged the Bob Dylan concert on Sunday night on the grassy lawns of the RMIT University in HCM City's District 7.

They greeted the legendary singer and song-writer with a thunderous ovation, rushing towards the stage to catch a closer glimpse of their musical hero.

Although this was Dylan's first visit to Viet Nam, his work had given voice to millions opposed to the unjust war being waged on Viet Nam more than four decades ago by the US.

The songs he composed in the 1960s and 70s achieved iconic status. These include Blowin' in the Wind, The Times They Are a-Changin', Like a Rolling Stone, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Forever Young, and Tangled up in Blue.

Bob Dylan, guitar in hand and white hat in head, performed without let up as the fans requested one song after another. Despite the changes that age has wrought on his voice, Dylan enthralled the audience with his singing and the profound lyrics were as moving and thought-provoking as ever.
