HCM CITY — Taiwanese band Semiscon will perform a concert at Ben Thanh Theatre in HCM City tonight.

Semiscon will sing a variety of songs acapella style, including hits such as When You Come Back, about people's feelings for far away loved ones, Angel Lover, a ballad about the desire to stay beside a lover, and The Coconut Tree, describing homesick expatriates.

The audience will also be entertained by talented performer Hu Qi-chi, with fire dancing, crystal ball juggling and acrobatics in a Cyr wheel.

On Sunday, hundreds of people flocked to the Czech Cultural Friendship Palace in Hai Phong to enjoy a Semiscon concert.

"The concert was organised to encourage Taiwanese businessmen to boost cultural exchanges with Vietnamese people," said Chin Kuo Hsia, chairman of the Association of Taiwanese Businessmen in Hai Phong.

Huang Lu Shan, 84, was visiting her son in Ha Noi, but decided to take the three hour coach journey to attend the event. She expressed her happiness at seeing such an interesting performance.

Band leader Chen Wu Ming said: "We've performed in many countries such as the US, South Africa, Canada, Thailand and Malaysia, but our best audience was here in Hai Phong. When we performed our last song, I could barely hear myself sing. If we have a chance to perform here again, I hope that we can stay longer."

Established in 2002, Semiscon have touched music lovers all over the world. Using vocal percussion, the band also incorporates elements of dance, design and comedy. They are the first professional acapella ensemble from Taiwan. — VNS
