City rockers to represent VN in region

HCM CITY — A rock band from Ho Chi Minh City, Containers, has won the ticket to represent Viet Nam at the regional finals of Global Ambassadors of Rock Battle of the Bands.

The singing talent and performance skills of the four bands – Windfield, Containers, The Battery, SagoMetal – in the final round of the HCM City Hard Rock Battle of the Bands on Saturday made the judging difficult, the press release said.

The five-piece HCM City band, Containers, with members Tay Phong, Bac Tri, Nam Vuong, Dong Nhat and Trung Canh, won it with a 30 minute set of high powered rock songs including The Souls, Dia Chan (Seism), Nha Tu Lon (Big Jail), Summer Time, and Sang Mua (Changing Season).

Besides the prizes of VND10 million (US$480) in cash and a performance contract with Hard Rock Cafe HCM City, Containers will be supported by Hard Rock Cafe HCM City to make the videos for the regional finals of Global Ambassadors of Rock, Battle of the Bands.

The band that has the most votes on www.hardrock.com will join the winning bands from three regions to become the Global Ambassadors of Rock to play at the three day music festival, Hard Rock Calling 2011 at Hyde Park, London from June 24 to 26.

Eight bands nationwide including seven bands from HCM City: The Wanderlust, Ha White Noise, Giao Chi, Windfield, The Battery, Container, SagoMetal and one band from Ha Noi named Dong Do, had competed since February 23 at the HCM City cafe live on stage.

Judges were music journalist Tri Quyen, the leader of the famous Buc Tuong (The Wall) rock band, Tran Lap, and musician-producer Curtis King. — VNS
