HCM CITY — Paintings, photos exhibitions and music shows in HCM City will celebrate International Women's Day on March 8.

Female artists will display silk, oil and lacquer works as well as statues and earthenware at four exhibitions, with the largest gathering 57 painters.

These will open next Tuesday at the city's Fine Arts Association on 218A Pasteur Street in District 3.

Participating in the exhibition Sac Mau Saigon – Ha Noi (Colours of Saigon – HaNoi) at the city's Exhibition House at 92 Le Thanh Ton Street will be well-known artists from HCM City and Ha Noi, including Cao Thi Duoc and Dang Thi Duong.

Works by female teachers and students of the city's Fine Arts College are displayed at the college on 5 Phan Dang Luu Street in Binh Thanh District.

The works at the exhibitions share common themes and subject matter, including an obvious interest in flowers, still life and peaceful landscapes.

More than 100 photos featuring young women in charming ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) will be displayed at Xinh Tuoi Viet Nam (Beautiful Viet Nam) exhibition.

The exhibition will open today at the Youth's Culture House at 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1.

Nu Cuoi Phu Nu (Women's Smiles) week-long exhibition featuring photos by prize-winning photographer Duy Anh will open on March 8 at the Women's Culture House, 192 Ly Chinh Thang Street in District 3.

Anh, who began his photographic career in 1987, has won more than 100 prizes at national and international photo festivals.

The Vietnamese film Canh Dong Bat Tan (Floating Lives), an adaptation from an award-winning short story by Nguyen Ngoc Tu, will be screened at the Women's Culture House from 4.30pm to 6.30pm next Tuesday. Admission is free.

Floating Lives produced by the BHD Company was a hit in Viet Nam when it was shown in cinemas last year.

A special music show titled Giai Dieu Yeu Thuong (Romance Melodies) organised for workers will be staged tonight at the Tan Binh Industrial Zone in HCM City.

HCM City Television's monthly music programme Thay Loi Muon Noi (That's What I Want to Say), which celebrates its 11th anniversary, will feature songs praising the love of mothers and women.

Many popular singers including Thu Minh, Dam Vinh Hung, Quang Linh and Cam Ly will take part in the show.

The show will be broadcast live on HTV9 and VTV4 at 8.30pm next Sunday. — VNS
