HCM CITY – The HCM City annual Tet (Lunar New Year) Book Fair will open in District 1 from February 13-19 (from December 28 to January 4 on the lunar calendar).
Nine local major publishers and book distributors, including Tre (Youth), Phan Thi, Phuong Nam and Fahasa, along with the General Sciences Library and the HCM City Museum, will feature their products.
More than 20,000 copies of books on literature, history, economy, and politics will be on sale. A kids’ zone for children’s books and traditional games will also be set up.
Several exhibitions will display books, documents and photos of President Ho Chi Minh and the Mau Than Offensive 1968, and the development of the 320-year-old HCM City.
An exhibition on the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Islands will showcase new documents and publications offered by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Dozens of special publications for Tet by the city’s major newspapers and magazines like Tre (Youth), Thanh Nien (Young People) and Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) will be displayed at the fair.
There will be several talks between authors and cultural experts and readers and visitors will be held during the event.
Vo Van Long, deputy director of the HCM City’s Department of Information and Communications, said: “This year’s book fair has the theme of Khu Vuon Tri Thuc (Garden of Knowledge), aiming to promote the reading habit and knowledge of city’s residents in Tet.”
The fair will be set up at Mac Thi Buoi, Nguyen Hue and Ngo Duc Ke streets in District 1. VNS
