HCM CITY — A special concert from the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will be performed in the city tomorrow.

The Colour of Music will feature music by four young composers, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh, Vu Viet Anh, Do Kien Cuong and Tran Dinh Lang, who have played a role in introducing classical music to local youth.

Pianist Ly Giai Nien will perform a solo series of six preludes for piano of Linh, one of the composer's latest works.

Violinist Truc Thuyen and cellist Tuan Anh will play Linh's Mong Manh (Fragile), a six-minute romantic piece.

A graduate in piano of HCM City Music Conservatory in 2000, Linh improved his composition at the Magnitogorsk Music Conservatory in Russia and he completed his master degrees in 2008. He now works for HBSO.

L'indochine, a work for piano, by Linh's colleague, songwriter-composer Viet Anh, will be featured by pianist Uyen Sa.

Anh created popular songs such as Dong Song Lo Dang (Slow River) and Mua Phi Truong (Rain at Airport), which have been performed many times by pop stars.

His works combine traditional and western music.

He is studying for a master degree in composition at Auckland University in New Zealand.

The evening will highlight Ve Lang (Returning Home), a trio for violin, cello and piano of composer Cuong, a master graduate in music performance at the US-based Brooklyn College.

The work will feature violinist Ho Dang Hoi, cellist Tuan Anh and pianist Dieu Thao.

A contemporary work by Lang will be included.

The 10-minute Troi (Drifting) will be performed by a group of skilled musicians, including violinist Hoi, vibraphonist-xylophonist Hoang Vinh Phuc, trumpet player Doan Huy An and bass drummer Doan Dinh Than.

A graduate of the Ha Noi National Music Institute, Lang teaches music at the HCM City Music Conservatory.

The concert will finish with a song sung in chorus by English composer John Rutter.

South Korean soloist Cho Hae Ryong will sing with support from chorusmaster Tran Nhat Minh, pianist Pham Nguyen Anh Vu, and the HBSO's chorus.

The event will begin at 8pm tomorrow, at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1. Tickets, ranging from VND150,000 to 200,000 (US$8-10), are available at the theatre's box office. — VNS
