HA NOI — Guitarist singer-songwriter Le Minh Son will perform at an open concert today for the television show Music Road.

The concert, to be held at the Cultural Palace, will be broadcast at 9pm on Viet Nam Television Channel 3.

Son is a graduate of the Viet Nam National Academy of Music and now teaches at the Ha Noi Arts College.

Son was know for his band Flamenco before his song Chuon Chuon Ot (Red Dragonfly) made big in 2003.

Son's contemporary folklore songs are favourites of singers like Hoang Quyen, Tung Duong and Thanh Lam, who will perform at the concert.

He was voted Musician of the Year by The Thao&Van Hoa (Culture&Sport) daily in 2004 and won the Vietnamese Song prize on Viet Nam Television in 2005.

He has made several albums, his latest Mot Khuc Song Hong (A Section of Red River) was launched recently to celebrate the 1,000th birthday of capital Ha Noi this October.

Twelve songs will be sung in the concert, including Trang Khuyet (Crescent Moon), Oi Que Toi (Oh, My Homeland) and Chuon Chuon Ot.

Trang Khuyet was composed over 10 years while Oi Que Toi was completed in 15 minutes, Son said.

"I attended my great-grandfather's funeral in my homeland and walked along the village lanes. I felt the beauty of the village and I was charmed. I wrote Oi Que Toi very quick," Son said.

The Music Road concert will be a chance for Son to talk about his guitar and contemporary folklore music.
