LẠNG SƠN The northern border province of Lạng Sơn’s authority has recognised Đồng Đăng International Railway Station as a tourist destination.
The province’s People’s Committee announced the decision at a ceremony on Monday in Cao Lộc District where the station is located.
The station located in Đồng Đăng Township, about 14km southeast of the city of Lạng Sơn. It is adjacent to National Highway 1A, 1B and Road 4 on the way to Hữu Nghị International Border Gate.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyễn Duy Anh, chairman of the district’s People’s Committee, highlighted the importance and potential of the station to the development of the local tourism sector.
“This is a large train station connected to China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region," Anh said. "The station is the ending point of the Hà Nội – Đồng Đăng railway line and is connected to Pingxiang Railway Station in China."
In its decision dated May 27, the provincial authority assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to manage tourism at the station and Cao Lộc District People’s Committee to organise the announcement of the recognition.
The international station had great potential as a tourism site thanks to its historical and cultural value.
It helps connect important transportation systems, ensuring convenient travel and national security.
In late February this year, the station welcomed and later bid farewell to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un for his five-day stay in Việt Nam for the second DPRK-USA Summit with President Donald Trump, and his official visit to the Southeast Asian nation.
The recognition of the station as a landmark will contribute to diversifying the tourism offerings in Cao Lộc District and Lạng Sơn Province, according a report from the district authority.
The district People’s Committee also introduced seven tourist routes including Hữu Nghị International Border Gate, Đồng Đăng Mother Goddess Temple and Mẫu Sơn tourist site.
Cao Lộc is a mountainous border district with diverse and unique cultural and historical values of ethnic minority communities, particularly the Tày and the Nùng.
Cao Lộc also has attractive nature, traditional handicrafts, nice weather and beautiful landscapes, making it a promising place for the tourism industry.
Hữu Nghị International Border Gate in the district is also an important point in the Nanning-Lạng Sơn-Hà Nội-Hải Phòng economic corridor, an important bridge in the development of economic relations between Việt Nam and China. VNS
