Festival honours Vietnamese families

HCM CITY — Around 1,000 business households are expected to take part in the fifth Family Festival on Sunday organised by the HCM City Youth Union.

The theme of the fifth Viet Nam Family Day in the Phu My Hung area will be about business and soldiers in peacetime.

"Entrepreneurs have contributed to the development of a national economy. The family is always a firm fulcrum, a place to share love," Nguyen Tri Quang, Deputy Chairman of Viet Nam Youth Federation in HCM City, said.

"This festival will contribute to social activities and promote the role of each family in the country's human development strategy."

The festival will be organised at the Crescent – Phu My Hung New City Centre in District 7 near the new Anh Sao Bridge.

More than 30 activities will be featured, including an exhibition displaying photos of previous family festivals and photos of Phu My Hung new city; a games and kids' playground; playgrounds for interactive games requiring the entire family; a health consulting and advice area; entertainment areas; and food courts.

Other activities include a flower-arranging contest, a Mom and Kid's fashion contest and cooking contest, all to take place on the main stage.

In addition, the Music and Talk Show themed Family – Fulcrum of Happiness from 7.30-9pm will be broadcast live on VTV9.

To mark the fifth Viet Nam Family Day in Phu My Hung, organisers designed a logo for the festival made of 20,000 Viet Nam coins worth VND30 million. The money will be used to build houses for poor families in the city.

The organisers have also announced the donation of 100 scholarships, worth VND1.8 million each, that will be granted to 100 poor and studious pupils in districts Can Gio, Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Nha Be and Binh Chanh.

Members of the HCM City Young Entrepreneurs Association will hand out the scholarships on Sunday, according to Nguyen Duc Dien, chairman of the association.

Viet Nam Family Day was created by a decision by the Prime Minister on April 4, 2001 to honour traditional values, education and healthy lifestyles for every family. — VNS
