Nation to host FIAP Congress talks in capital

HA NOI — The Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) will host the 30th International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) Congress from August 1-8 in Ha Noi.

The congress will be joined by 240 delegates from 43 countries and territories. Apart from official sessions, they will attend the 30th FIAP Monochrome Biennial and 30th FIAP Youth Biennial exhibitions at Viet Nam Exhibition Centre of Art and Literature, Hoa Lu Street, Ha Noi.

The aim of the congress is to develop and promote photographic knowledge on an artistic, educational and scientific level; to foster fraternal links and friendly relations among all member federations and to promote Vietnamese tourism and culture, said Vu Quoc Khanh, VAPA's president.

"I believe that the 30th FIAP Congress will be a great opportunity for participants from all over the world to get to know each others and to exchange ideas and experiences," Khanh said.

Ha Noi's millennium celebration will also be a good opportunity for delegates to enjoy Viet Nam while having a better understanding of beautiful landscape, people, culture and history, Khanh said.

FIAP was founded by Belgian Van de Wijer in 1946 as an international federation with national associations of photography acting as affiliates.

FIAP counts more than 85 national associations and represents the interests of nearly 1 million individual photographers.

Since 1991, when Viet Nam became a member of FIAP, Vietnamese photographers have won many FIAP prizes. — VNS
