HA NOI — A new collection, Inside out, is now on display at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum here and the Indonesian National Gallery in Jakarta.
The exhibition opened yesterday in Ha Noi and features 34 artworks made by 17 Vietnamese and 17 Indonesian artists.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ha Noi, the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum and the Indonesian National Gallery held the art exhibition to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between two contries.
The pieces created by the Indonesian artists are rich, realistic and overflowing with lively emotive expressions that are congruent with traditional and contemporary Indonesian art.
The Vietnamese artists' works illuminate a simple and profound philosophical expression that is common in contemporary art in the country.
"This is a great opportunity for the artists from both countries to share," said Phan Van Tien, deputy director of the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum.
Tubagus Andre Sukmana, director of the Indonesian National Gallery, said the exhibition was part of an international co-operation exhibition programme among galleries and art museums in Asia. "Next year, Indonesian visitors will have a chance to enjoy Vietnamese artworks."
Nyoman Gurnitha, a visitor at the exhibition, was inspired by the Indonesian and Vietnamese painters.
"Artworks show me the features of two cultures. Through them I understand something about Vietnam," he said. "However, Indonesia is a country of many islands and groups of people. These artworks reflect only a small part of my country."
The exhibition will run until August 18 at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ha Noi. — VNS
