Orchestra to perform patriotic music

HCM CITY — The HCM City Theatre Ballet and Symphony Orchestra will regale city aficionados with a performance tomorrow that will include revolutionary music and compositions by veteran Vo Dang Tin.

The event will comprise two parts. The first will feature Ky Uc Dong Khoi (Memories of the General Uprising), a symphony performed by the orchestra.

Sopranos Ngoc Tuyen and Korean Cho Hea Ryong will then separately render Hoa Dua (Coconut Flower) and Tieng Hat Tinh Yeu (The Tunes of Love) accompanied by the orchestra.

Pham Trang and the orchestra's woman choir will sing Menh Mong Sai Gon (The Spacious Sai Gon) and Menh Mong Dong Song (The Spacious River), both of which eulogise the country, peace, and love.

In the second part of the show, dancers will perform Mat Troi Trong Tim (Sunshine in the Heart), a ballet suite choreographed by Vu Viet Cuong, Tran Quy Quy, and Nguyen Tan Loc, three of the city's top dancers. A suite is an instrumental composition consisting of a succession of dances in the same or related keys.

The dance will portray the life and work of the late President Ho Chi Minh, and have music composed by Tin and musician and conductor Tran Vuong Thach and played by the orchestra.

The suite will have 12 scenes in three chapters – Dau An Thoi Gian (The Moment of Time), Mat Troi Trong Tim (Sunshine in the Heart), and Mua Xuan Nang Am (Sunny Spring).

Hong Chau, Phuc Hai, and Kim Thoa will perform along with young artist Phi Diep who will play the President.

Tin, 60, has been an integral part of the nation's classical music scene for the last 40 years.

Born in Ben Tre Province, he became interested in music before graduating from the HCM City Music Conservatory in 1981.

A former director of the HBSO, he has composed numerous songs and the music score for ballets and other shows.

He has won many prizes at national music competitions and festivals held by the Viet Nam Musicians Association.

The concert will be held at 8pm on Tuesday at the Opera House, Lam Son Square, District 1. Tickets costing VND150,000 and VND200,000 are available at the box office. — VNS
