HCM CITY — Many of Viet Nam's top pop stars will perform at HCM City's Hoa Binh Theatre today to raise funds for Agent Orange victims.

Vi Ngay Mai Tuoi Sang (For a Brighter Future) will feature My Tam, Kasim Hoang Vu, Ha Anh Tuan, Quang Dung, and bands like GMC and Ao Trang (White Dress).

Expected to attract more than 1,000 people, including foreigners who live and work in the city, it will mostly feature soft music, with the highlights being Kasim Hoang Vu and the Ao Trang, a group comprising three women.

Kasim will sing Noi Khat Khao Mat Troi (Longing for the Sun) written by well-known musician Phu Quang.

Ao Trang will perform late composer Trinh Cong Son's De Gio Cuon Di (Let the Wind Blow It Away).

Putting our hands together and working for the victims of Agent Orange is our duty, the show's director, musician Le Quang, said.

It is being organised by the US-Viet Nam Dialogue Group on Agent Orange/Dioxin and its partner, the HCM City-based Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

Established in 2007 with support from the Ford Foundation, the Group has identified ways to deal with the human and environmental consequences of the US military's poisoning of Viet Nam's environment.

Its activities and programmes have attracted many business leaders and scientists around the world.

On the Vietnamese side, its leader is Ngo Quang Xuan, deputy chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee.

The organisers said they hope to encourage more organisations and individuals to contribute to the cause of Agent Orange victims,.

The concert will begin at 8pm tonight and be shown live on the Viet Nam Television's VTV2 and VTV4 channels.

Excerpts from Vietnam Revisited, a documentary made by US network CBS Television in 2010 on the stories behind the lives of victims will be shown.

There will also be talks by the Group's members and patrons. — VNS
