HCM CITY — Cai luong (reformed opera) actress Que Tran won the award for Favourite TV Cai Luong Actress at the fifth HCM City Television (HTV) Awards on Monday.
A total of 15,000 fans called in to vote for her second victory in five HTV Awards seasons. She won her first award in the second season in 2007.
"The award is motivation for me to develop my career and proves that audiences still pay attention to traditional arts performances," said a tearful Tran after winning the awards.
Tran also received the organisers' Contribution Award for the development of cai luong in 2010.
Tran began her professional career when she was seven, performing for the Bach Long Troupe, a cai luong troupe for young artists owned by comedian Bach Long, one of the leading performers of the art.
With her beauty and strong voice, Tran quickly improved her performance skills and became a bright star in cai luong theatres.
In 1998, she won the Tran Huu Trang Golden Prize, a prestigious prize in cai luong given by the HCM City Theatre Association.
Tran is among nine winners in nine categories of music, theatre performance arts and TV series for the HTV Awards 2010.
Actor Hoa Hiep won the award for Favourite TV Series Actor for his best performance as an ambitious man who only loves money in Cong Mat Troi (The Sun's Gate).
Hiep also received the organisers and sponsors' award for the Friendliest Artist who is actively involved in the station's charity and community activities.
Singer and actress Minh Hang's performance as a strong woman named Xoan in Doi Mat (Facing) brought her the award for Favourite TV Series Actress.
The organisers for the first time gave two awards for Favourite Supporting Actor to Vo Thanh Tam and Le Binh, who had the same number of votes from audiences.
The award for Favourite Male and Female Singers was given to Dam Vinh Hung and Cam Ly.
Cai luong actor Trong Phuc, comedian and actress Thanh Thuy, and actress Hoai An won awards for their achievement and contribution to the development of the station last year.
The organisers also granted two more Contribution Awards to singer Thanh Thuy and director Le Cung Bac.
HTV Awards is a prestigious award given by HTV since 2006. During five seasons, the award recognised 38 performers in TV series, theatre performance arts and music through more than 1 million votes from audiences. — VNS
