TOKYO, Japan — Giang Thi Thao, a 22-year-old girl from Ha Noi, was crowned the winner of the second Miss Vietnam Festival 2018, which was recently held in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, Japan.
Held within the framework of the Vietnam Festival on May 19-20, the beauty contest was open to candidates aged 15 to 29, regardless of their nationalities.
Among the 38 contestants, five girls from Viet Nam and two from Japan received the highest votes on the internet to enter the finale. Voting was open from April 25 to May 9. They had to compete in three rounds -- self-chosen traditional dress, traditional dress tailored from Japanese material and a Q&A.
The Vietnam Festival was first held in Japan in September 2008, becoming the largest-ever festival of Viet Nam held in the country. Since then, the festival has been organised annually and has become the largest cultural exchange event between the two countries.
The winner of the first Miss Vietnam Festival held last year was a Japanese girl, Rika Takeuchi. This year’s event aimed to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries as well as the 128th birth anniversary of Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh.
It had 120 pavilions, including 60 food stalls, and 50 others showcasing Vietnamese goods and introducing the image of the Vietnamese land and its people, along with art performances. The festival attracted over 150,000 visitors. — VNS
