HA NOI — A national circus gala will take place in Ha Noi in response to the World Circus Day next Saturday.

The Viet Nam Circus Federation (VCF) will organise a special programme to mark the first World Circus Day, said Vu Ngoan Hop, the VCF's director.

The day will also be celebrated in Canada, South Africa, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, India, and Japan.

The first World Circus Day was announced by the World Circus Federation. The event originated from a proposal made by the European Circus Association two years ago, and will become truly global in April this year, said Hop.

Viet Nam will join the global day with national and international award-winning performances.

At the gala, circus fans will be entertained with the Superman Swing show that won the gold medal and audience's favourite prize at the third international circus festival in Spain and other shows that won prizes at international and national circus festivals.

Superman Swing performance features eight young artists that swing and somersault 15-18m above the ground.

The VCF is now busy preparing for the International Circus Festival slated for August 6-11 in Viet Nam.

The gala, which is to be held by the VCF to preserve and promote circus arts, draws the participation of circus performers from troupes in the whole nation. — VNS
