HCM CITY — The Toyota Motor Viet Nam Company (TMV) officially launched the Toyota Junior Football Camp 2018 at a press conference on May 22 at the Pullman Sai Gon Hotel.
The event will take placed from June 10 to September 20, with the support of Ministry of Education and Training.
The event, in its fourth year in Viet Nam, aims to search for and train youngsters from 9-12 years old, nurturing their passion for football and raising their awareness of the need for a healthy body, soul and discipline.
TMV also hopes the programme will nuture a young generation of footballers for the future.
“We are glad the programme has become one of the most anticipated sports events for children in Viet Nam. After three years, we received 8,000 children across the country attending the preliminary selection days. We also have three training camps in HCM City to train 90 potential players, and three tournament trips in Japan for 54 selected kids,” said Do Thu Hoang, deputy director of TMV.
“Last year, young children representing Viet Nam won the silver medal in this tournament. After the camp, many children continued pursuing professional football,” he noted.
This year, players will receive coaching from manager Le Huynh Duc and footballer Phan Thanh Binh, two stars who are loved by national fans.
The preliminary selection, held from June 10 to July 1, will take place in Ha Noi, Da Nang, HCM City and Pleiku City in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.
After the selection, the 18 best players will be selected to join the friendship tournament in Japan from September 13 to 20. — VNS
