HCM CITY — A theatre show featuring young talents in cai luong (reformed opera) will open on September 18’s night at the Le Hoang Stage in HCM City.

The show, Ngoc Nghe Phuong Nam (Theatre of the South), will feature actors Binh Tinh, Ngoc Hai and Truong Giang.

They are winners of  Sao Noi Ngoi (Young Stars), a TV show featuring young actors in cai luong (reformed opera), produced by Vinh Long Television in 2016.

The artists are children of well-known actors who have devoted their life to maintain their family’s artistic tradition.

They will offer performances of vong co (nostalgic tunes), cai luong (reformed opera) and tuong or hat boi (classical drama), traditional genres of theatre in the southern and central regions.

Extracts from famous cai luong and tuong plays, such as Huyen Tran Cong Chua (Princess Huyen Tran) and Tran Quoc Toan (Young Hero Tran Quoc Toan), will also be featured.

“My mom helped develope my career in a professional way. I believe that traditional theatre should be transferred from the older generations to the younger ones,” said 24-year-old actor Hoang Hai, whose father is cai luong star Ngoc Dung.

Hai began his career when he was nine years old. He has performed in many plays, TV shows and videos.

He will stage with support of young actors of Truong Giang Troupe, a private tuong troupe owned by young theatre director and producer Giang.

The show will begin at 8pm on September 18 at Le Hoang Stage in 144 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Binh Thanh District. — VNS
