HCM CITY — The HCM City-based Tre (Youth) Publishing House opens the Old Book Fair on December 15.

The event features more than 1,000 titles in various fields, including books published five years ago, which are being sold at discounts of up to 50 per cent or more.

More promotional and cultural programmes will be held to attract readers, especially young people and children, to the two-day event.

Nguyen Minh Nhat, director of the publisher, said we hope university students and young workers who are regular customers of the publisher will enjoy the old books at reasonable prices.

“We encourage organisers and individuals to buy old books for charity. We offer them at a discount of 70 per cent,” he said.

Featured are titles about events and heroes from different periods of the country’s history, especially the 81 years since the Party’s founding.

A popular book is Le Minh Quoc’s collection of eight books on great Vietnamese men, titled Ke Chuyen Danh Nhan Viet Nam (Stories of Vietnamese Great People), a research work on outstanding people in politics and culture.

Patriots and liberation soldier during the wars are also included.

Several books from Tre’s bestsellers, written by veteran and young authors such as Nguyen Nhat Anh, are also on sale.

According to Nhut, the publisher will soon launch a website to offer old books.
