HA NOI — An exhibition of photos depicting social inequality will take place on Saturday in Ha Noi.
The event is the result of a photo contest entitled ‘Narrow Down Gaps’ pointing out inequality between men and women; urban and suburban areas; majority and minority communities; disabled and able-bodied people; the rich and the poor; and the LGBT community.
“Through the photo contest, we want to raise people’s awareness of inequalities and contribute to the formulation of policies that address inequalities,” said photographer Maika Elan, a jury member.
“The contest links photographic art with social responsibility. It creates a chance for photographers to observe life.”
“The photos urge viewers to think about current problems of modern society,” she said.
The exhibition will take place at Adonis Hotel, 55 Quang Trung Street, Ha Noi. Winning photos will be announced at the exhibition. All entries can be seen online at www.facebook.com/thuhepkhoangcach.
The photos will be displayed in the framework of Bridge Fest 2019, a music festival to be held on January 13 in Ha Noi. The concert aims to break down gender, income, physical, geographical, cultural and religious barriers to promote equality and social integration.
The contest kicked off in November 2018 by Oxfam Viet Nam in collaboration with the US Embassy in Viet Nam. The event is part of the Even It Up Campaign launched in Viet Nam in 2016.
The organising board received more than 300 entries sent by photographers nationwide.
The Even It Up campaign focuses on the State budget and national tax system, looking at how a fair and effective collection of revenue and spending of the State budget can help finance high-quality and equitable public services.
