HA NOI — Two Vietnamese blockbusters were screened during the first ASEAN film festival that was held in Utrecht City, the Netherlands, over the weekend.
The films were Tam Cam: Chuyen Chua Ke (Tam Cam: The Untold Story) and Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass).
The event was part of the activities to commemorate the 50th establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with the participation of the Vietnamese ambassador in the Netherlands, Ngo Thi Hoa, ambassadors from other ASEAN countries in the Netherlands – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand – as well as Dutch movie lovers, international friends and officials of ASEAN embassies.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the chairman of the ASEAN Committee and Indonesian Ambassador in the Netherlands, Gusti Agung Wesaka Pujam, stressed that the ASEAN film festival aimed to transfer the cultural and historical messages of ASEAN to Dutch friends. Screening 10 films of different genres directed by directors from five ASEAN countries, the three-day event was also expected to leave a positive and memorable impression on Dutch film lovers.
Also on the occasion, the audience had a chance to meet actors and actresses from the Philippines and Indonesia, as well as to taste the cuisine from ASEAN countries. — VNS
