Binh Duong festival to cherish country's ceramics tradition

HCM CITY — The Ceramics Festival of Viet Nam- Binh Duong 2010 to be held in September will pay tribute to one of the country's most renowned traditional handicrafts and showcase it to the world.

It will feature ceramics made in traditional handicrafts villages around the country like Bat Trang near Ha Noi, Chu Dau in Hai Duong Province, Bau Truc in Ninh Thuan Province and Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province, Nguyen Van Tan, the head of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's office in the south, said.

The week-long festival will have 600 stalls that will also display ceramic products from countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Laos, and Cambodia.

A seminar on the status of Viet Nam's ceramics industry during the integration process and a conference to help ceramics manufacturers establish new partnerships and promote sales at home and abroad will be held.

Viet Nam's first ceramics festival will also commemorate 1,000 years of Ha Noi, Nguyen Hoang Son, chairman of the Binh Duong Province People's Committee and head of organising board, said.

"We hope the festival will help tourists and locals understand more about Vietnamese ceramics, the country's long-standing traditional handicraft."

HCM City-based company wins top awards for TV commercials

HCM CITY— A HCM City-based company won two awards for its TV advertising campaigns, which were honoured at the 16th Annual Communicator Awards held recently in New York City.

The company, named Riverorchid, used stunning visual effects of pieces of clothing turning into an orange colour to illustrate how the switch to Vietnamobile spreads from person to person.

The awards were given in the telecommunications/internet service and visual effects categories for videos. The commercials were produced and shot in Viet Nam.

"It's a great affirmation of our work to receive recognition from an international body such as the Communicators," said Elizabeth Fong, CEO of Vietnamobile.

The Communicator Awards event is one of the largest in the field and attracts thousands of entries from the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Brides buzz to wedding fair at New World Hotel Saigon

HCM CITY — For the third time the New World Hotel Saigon opens its doors today for their popular annual wedding fair.

The two-day Wedding Fair features over 30 companies offering wedding dress collections, wedding flowers, fine jewelry and photographic services.

Workshops at the fair will cover topics such as bridal make-up, hairstyles and "How to plan a perfect wedding".

"Since its introduction in 2008, the Wedding Fair has become a focus event in town. Last year more than 3,000 guests visited the exhibition," Ho Thao Ly of the New World Hotel Saigon, said.

Wedding Fair also features a glamorous fashion show showcasing the current trends: age of innocence, aqua, black and white as well as oriental wedding outfits for both bride and groom.

Admission for weekend is free. Tickets for the fashion show are US$ 25++ or VND 475,000++ per person. — VNS
