HCM CITY — Tran Tuan has spent more than two decades of his professional life taking photographs of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the architect of Viet Nam's military victories over the French and the Americans.

"I was lucky to have the opportunity to be near the general, who all Vietnamese people love and respect, and take his pictures," says Tuan, who accompanied General Giap on many trips within the country and abroad.

The Vietnam News Agency photojournalist has thousands of black and white as well as colour photographs of Giap, portraying a national hero well known not only for his battlefield genius but also for his kindness and generosity.

An exhibition featuring a selection of Tuan's photographs opened in HCM City at the Reunification Palace yesterday.

The 101 Moments with General Vo Nguyen Giap exhibition showcases as many photos capturing the general's daily life, including visits to students, meetings with workers and officials as well as diplomats abroad.

The exhibition attracted thousands of visitors in Ha Noi and neighbouring provinces when it opened in the capital city last December.

In HCM City, the exhibition will remain open until this Saturday at the Reunification Palace, 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street. — VNS
