HA NOI — An exhibition showcasing Polish posters opened in Ha Noi, which provided visitors with a glimpse of Polish art.

The exhibit is being hosted in two restaurants at the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake. The show features 30 posters that have been collected by the Polish Embassy in Ha Noi.

While most Vietnamese people are unfamiliar with Polish art, the genre has an established global reputation. In 1966, Poland held the First International Poster Biennial, which for years was the most prestigious event of its kind. Poland also opened the first poster museum in the world in Warsaw in 1968.

At that time, Poland was known for being the centre of "wall and board" art, which quickly put the country on the map for its creativity.

All the posters on display at the exhibition were created during the past 50 years and were largely influenced by politics, culture and lifestyle.

The restaurants that are hosting the event have also allowed patrons to try Polish cuisine. The hotel's executive chef Eric Fettke has created a new menu showcasing Polish delicacies for the event.

"Someone once said: ‘A poster constitutes a mirror for the times it is created in. Like a mirror it reflects the political and social situation.' And we find with food, it is much the same," said the chef, who used to work at the InterContinental Warsaw for two years.

Some of his gastronomic creations include duck liver pate served with hazelnut and honey pancakes and cranberry and raison jam; Zubrowka cured salmon with red borscht terrine; Kohlrabi salad and horseradish foam; and grilled codfish with honey glazed Polish duck breast.

The Polish poster and food exhibition will run until June 24 at the Milan and Saigon restaurants at the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake at 1A Nghi Tam, Tay Ho District. — VNS
